This kit is legal in almost all states. Most laws stipulate that any motorized vehicle 50cc and under is legal to operate without a license, registration, or insurance. You can find a kit with a larger engine, but you will be required to have a drivers license and you must license, register, and insure your scooter. Don't bother with the hassle--get the biggest engine available that doesn't require license, registration, and insurance!

I bought this kit for a custom application on a 26" stretch cruiser i picked -up last summer. The bike was already a fun bike to ride and a real "eye-catcher", but the bike had three gears and all were for speed!?-so the smallest hill took some effort to get-up. And then thats when it hit-me!! .... i'll just throw an engine in it! So i hit the net and found that most kits are 2-stroke and the look of the bike would be lost if it made that "high pitch" noise so i knew that a four -stroke motor would be the better fit for the project. Honda has never let me down in the past so the obvious choice was made there, and most four stroke motors give a better low end power so another no-brainer on that decision!. I knew by looking at the installation guide that this was not just going to be a simple install since the kit was made for a standard " V " shaped frame but.... a degree in engineering would not be needed:) So my order consisted of.... -1 complete (honda) 50cc engine-kit -1 1 gallon gas tank "because i RIDE!!" -1 inline fuel filter -1 fuel valve -1 1 lbs bag of weed "i wish!!" The order took a few days to arrive and arrive intact it did!. I did not start on it right away..... "you know the work thing". I started with the motor and first checked how the chain lined-up with the sprocket, it was good but the mounting bracket had to be welded because of the stretched frame, so the clamps for the frame were not used. I was able to utilize almost every other part in the kit so not much money wasted there. The total install took about a week, due to welding and multiple trips to the bike shop and home depot for all the "custom work". I took a few test runs and all went well except for a few chain malfunctions, mainly due to the stretch of the bike and the chains needing to be lengthened. My first real ride was a 20-30 mile loop and started with a two mile down hill ride and the chains were tested to the max there and went fine. Next was a 8 mile flat to small hill ride and the bike felt strong but i did not give it full-throttle just to give it some good break-in time, maybe riding at about 15-20mph. Next the ride consisted of some long medium hills so i was a little worried about the chain problems from earlier but the bike had no problems at all. Also noticed that you really use the engine as more of an assist rather than the main source of power. Meaning you still pedal but kick the motor on only when you need it. Next was the speed test at a stretch of road that your speed is noted by an electronic speed sign that tells you how fast your going and i was clocked at 44 mph!- and right about there i was satisfied with my work and my purchase!!...i completed the trip and i am still pumped on my new bike!! The gas mileage is great!! my tank was almost full after that ride. Its only been a few weeks and since then i've had a few people ask me to build one for them. I'm still trying to come up with a fair price but i honestly think 2-3k is not bad??. Cons- The installation manuel is poopy but don't worry you can figure it out. Well..... thats all i have to say about that! Also! THANK YOU - "BIG J " !!__the coolest tech guy out there!! !! thanks for all your time and help !!
