This is the same gearbox as the stage II internally. The modifications are focused on better retaining wet lubrication. Using grease works better in my experience. I tried wet and found too much slippage. This is the best drive system for a motored bicycle designed so far. Noise levels are tolerable and the drive feels solid and reliable. My stage II continues to work great. The weak link is bushing between the crankshaft and the primary drive gear. This gets the most strain and therefore the most wear. It works fine-but it requires disasembly and re-greasing every 2-3 weeks. This is tolerable in my opinion, just not ideal. Note that I do not use the manual clutch at all. I keep the final drive engaged all the time and use the centrifigul clutch exclusively. So when the primary bushing gets dry, my clutch chatters and can even stall the motor. So I take it apart and re-grease every few weeks. An acceptable price to pay for the fun and utility.
